Best gaming chairs in 2023

A gaming chair’s quality depends on its ergonomics and build. Everything else is secondary. Fortunately, current gaming chairs boast impressive appearances and offer both comfort and customization. Nonetheless, acquiring a chair that meets these requirements can demand a considerable sum, which is why it’s crucial to spend your money judiciously.

Though it may demand a substantial investment, a good chair guarantees ergonomic benefits that are favorable to your delicate and vulnerable corporeal being. Presently, the Secretlab Titan Evo ranks as the most exceptional gaming chair, as it combines the best features of Secretlab’s previous models.

Gaming chairs are available in a plethora of shapes and sizes, ranging from racing car seats to thrones adorned with demonic symbols, and even chairs that bear the insignia of your favorite comic book hero. For a more understated choice, we’ve included some low-profile yet elegant office chairs such as the Herman Miller X Logitech G Embody, which provides the desired support without the flashy aesthetics of typical gaming chairs, all for the price of an actual gaming PC.

Our team has rigorously tested numerous gaming chairs from trustworthy companies, ensuring that each chair in this guide passes the test of our collective backsides. Though you could opt for a cheaper office chair, we believe it’s worth investing in your ergonomics. So go ahead and indulge your hindquarters with something special—your body will be grateful.

The Secretlab Titan is the gold standard when it comes to gaming chairs. It checks all the boxes for what you would expect from gaming furniture: it’s comfortable, supportive, and visually appealing. The Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 continues this tradition and is the latest offering from Secretlab (despite its outdated name in 2023).

Instead of rehashing the same points, let’s dive right into the new features. The Titan Evo is designed for a wider audience, with three different sizes available: small, regular, and extra-large. This means that you won’t need to look for a different model to find the right fit—the Titan Evo should have you covered.

Secretlab has made a small curve in the seat base, which it claims helps to maintain good posture. While it’s hard to tell whether this gentle curve is actually doing anything, the seat is still comfortable, thanks to its ample foam padding.

The Titan Evo’s user-friendly ergonomics make it ideal for extended gaming sessions or eight-hour workdays. Its excellent built-in back support is highly adjustable, making it easy to get a perfect fit. Additionally, the 4D armrests and head cushion are both magnetic, which is a simple and effective solution that does away with fiddly straps.

The adjustable lumbar support is a significant part of the Titan Evo’s high level of comfort. The chair has internal support that can be extended or retracted in any direction using the two dials on the side. This means that you don’t need to rely on an awkward pillow to prop up your back, and you can adjust the lumbar support while still sitting on the chair, making it incredibly easy to find the perfect level of support.

The chair’s upholstery is also top-notch. While the SoftWeave Plus fabric that Secretlab offers is still an excellent option (we tested the hybrid leatherette version), the leatherette is quite attractive, particularly the bright red stitching. We will have to wait to see how durable it is over time, but the fabric feels surprisingly airy and cool over long periods.

As a combination of Secretlab’s two previous gaming chair models, the Titan and Omega, the Secretlab Titan Evo improves on both in every way. It manages to match or surpass the strengths of each chair. Although it is slightly more expensive than its predecessors at $449 ($499 for the XL model), the Titan Evo’s upgrades are worth the higher price tag.

Corsair has recently released its latest gaming chair, the T3 Rush, which boasts a significant upgrade in terms of comfort and design. As an SEO expert and high-end copywriter, I can confidently say that this chair is an excellent addition to your gaming setup.

One of the standout features of the T3 Rush gaming chair is its memory foam lumbar pillow, which provides exceptional comfort and support during long gaming sessions. The chair’s breathable soft fabric also contributes to its comfort level, as it retains less heat, keeping you fresh and comfortable.

Although fabric chairs may be more comfortable than faux leather or leather, they can be challenging to clean if you are prone to spills and stains. However, the T3 Rush’s fabric is easy to clean, making it a great choice for those who love snacking or drinking at their desk.

Unlike many other gaming chairs that come in bright colors and flashy designs, the T3 Rush leans more toward office chic, making it a versatile choice for both gaming and work. It comes in gray or black, with no outrageous design choices that might be embarrassing on a work call. Despite its reasonable price of $300, it looks more expensive than it is. If you want a chair with a bit more personality, DX Racer and Secret Labs offer many different designs and colors.

The T3 Rush also features a recline of up to 180 degrees, allowing you to lie back and take a comfortable nap or relax after a long gaming session. This feature is especially useful if you enjoy streaming games like Apex Legends or CS: GO for extended periods.

One potential downside of the T3 Rush is that it might not be the best fit for smaller-framed users. If you require a smaller seat, the T3 may feel uncomfortably tight. However, if you’re over 6 ft tall or weigh over 200 lbs, this chair may be an excellent option for you unless you’re buying it for a child.

The T3 Rush gaming chair from Corsair is a fantastic option for gamers who prioritize comfort and versatility. Its memory foam lumbar pillow, breathable soft fabric, easy-to-clean material, and sleek design make it a great value for its price. The only drawback is that it may not be comfortable for smaller-framed users. Nonetheless, the T3 Rush is an excellent choice for those looking for a comfortable and high-performing gaming chair.

The NeueChair is a fine option for those who prioritize utility over aesthetics. Although it possesses a certain style – with the choice between a sleek, subdued obsidian or a flashy chrome/silver, both of which boast striking, sweetly curved back supports and an appealing black mesh – its most notable feature is its durability. The chair is constructed with a weighty, robust industrial design, a characteristic that is immediately evident in its packaging, which is weighty and substantial.

Putting the chair together is a breeze: it comes in two distinct pieces, and assembly consists solely of attaching the casters and sliding the two components together. Nearly every aspect of the seat can be adjusted, from the armrests to the lumbar support system which allows for modifications to the height and depth of the backrest.

In my experience, the NeueChair is among the most exceptional office chairs I have ever had the pleasure of occupying. If the admittedly high price point is within your budget, the investment is certainly worth it.

Perhaps the name Herman Miller Embody is familiar to you. For a significant period of time, it dominated the rankings for the best office chairs. However, this has come to an end not because of any issues with comfort or acclaim but because the renowned chair manufacturer has teamed up with Logitech to create a bespoke chair for gaming enthusiasts.

In essence, the Herman Miller x Logitech G Embody is not a radical departure from the classic Embody design. This tried and tested design has been widely recognized, and the gaming Embody is now available in a new black and blue color scheme, with plain black also offered for a more understated appearance. A small Logitech G toggle on the back serves no discernible purpose, and the Logitech G logo appears on the upper band of the backrest.

Although I’m unsure if the Logitech collaboration adds much to the mix, the branding is noticeably more subtle than the race-inspired gaming chairs we’ve grown accustomed to as PC gamers. As a result, it feels tasteful.

It’s not the modifications that make the Embody stand out as one of the best gaming chairs on the market. It’s what has remained unchanged. The tried and tested Embody design is undoubtedly one of the finest chairs for both office work and gaming, offering exceptional comfort for extended periods of use, promoting an active and healthy posture, and being readily adjustable to your body.

Before it arrived, I wasn’t sure what to anticipate from the Embody. I certainly didn’t envision a gargantuan box arriving on my doorstep. My initial reaction was entirely centered on how I’d manage to haul that box up two flights of narrow stairs to my apartment.

But that large box conceals what may be one of Herman Miller’s most remarkable features. After I decided to use a knife to cut the chair out of the box in my hallway, I discovered that the chair was already fully assembled, so there was no need to fiddle with screws or discard any tools, which is one of my pet peeves. (I’ve amassed a collection of third-rate Allen keys from cheap flatpack furniture, and I can’t help but think there must be a better approach.)

The most apparent characteristic of this chair is that you can sit in it all day without experiencing any discomfort on your posterior. While you may shift your upper body into all sorts of non-ergonomic positions during the day, your lower body tends to stay glued to your desk, so it’s crucial to get it right. Fortunately, the Embody does just that.

Furthermore, the warranty is a standout feature. It covers 12 years, including labor, and is rated for 24-hour use over that period. As a result, it’s a chair that is guaranteed to last you for more than a decade. So, while the initial price may appear steep – and it is – the reality is that you’re certain to get your money’s worth in the long run. And, your back will undoubtedly thank you for it.

When one purchases a gaming chair, the tendency is to prioritize luxury over health. Many chairs marketed to gamers are presented as plush thrones designed to alleviate any discomfort that may arise from prolonged gameplay. However, such claims are often false, and it is vital for some individuals to select a chair that prioritizes spinal support.

Our team has used the Noblechairs Hero in uPVC leather for nearly a year and can confidently endorse its ability to provide optimal back support. While not the most visually captivating or athletically designed, it excels in promoting spinal health.

The assembly process is relatively straightforward, with the exception of attaching the back to the seat. It is advisable to enlist the aid of a friend for this step. The chair is sturdy and supportive, though it is essential to note that it is not particularly soft. Therefore, those who prefer a more cushioned seat may wish to consider other options.

The Hero gaming chair’s imposing presence is striking, with its cold-cure pressed foam providing firm yet comfortable seating. You do not sink too deeply into the chair, which is beneficial for maintaining proper posture. While it may be initially hard to the touch, it is an asset in terms of aesthetic appeal. However, it is worth noting that its supportive qualities make it ideal for extended gaming sessions or working from the comfort of your own home. Whether you are a gamer or a remote worker, this chair’s sturdiness is unmatched.

The pivoting armrests are a notable feature, as they can be easily adjusted to accommodate gamepad usage. The armrests are also height and width adjustable, making them ideal for individuals with smaller frames. However, the chair’s armrests are wide, and it is easy to lean on the corners rather than utilizing the full extent of the armrests. While padded armrests would be ideal, the lack thereof is not a significant issue, and the armrests do not become sticky or slippery during extended usage.

The chair is height adjustable, and its backrest boasts a rake mechanism that enables angle adjustment via a handbrake-like contraption. Additionally, it features an independent lock tilt mechanism, allowing users to rock freely or lock themselves in a near-horizontal position for a quick nap. When unlocked, it does not spring forward and crush the user, making it a safer option than some other chairs on the market.

Backrest: Adjustable lumbar support and headrest

Best for

+ Adjustable headrest and lumbar support

+ 4D armrests
+ Large weight capacity

– Quite heavy and difficult to move around or adjust
– Placement of the lumbar support knobs isn’t ideal
– Price may not be affordable for everyone

The Kaiser 3 XL chair is a remarkable option for those seeking a more expansive seating experience than your conventional gaming chair. The Kaiser 3 presents in two sizes: large and extra large. The former accommodates gamers between 4’11 to 6’2’’ (150-190cm), whereas the latter is designed for gamers ranging from 5’11” to 6’9” (181-210cm). The extra large option was my chosen seat for this trial.

The extra-large width is tailored for medium to XXXL, and as such, it can accommodate a gluteus maximus or gluteus minimus.

The Kaiser 3 prides itself on providing an array of options. The chair is available in two types of materials: premium PVC leather and linen fabric. The premium leather option comes in seven different colors, including orange, pink, and blue. On the other hand, the linen fabric option is available in two colors: carbon black and ash gray. The variant that I had the opportunity to test is the premium PVC leather option in elegant black, which has a striking resemblance to the Jungle 2 with orange accents.

All these features sound impressive, don’t they? The Kaiser 3 has a reclined angle of 165 degrees, and two levers, one for controlling the tilt and the other for raising the height of the chair to about three inches. All these options sound fantastic for ultimate comfort.

However, the real question is, what are the features that make Kaiser 3 stand out? The 4D armrests are among the coolest features that enhance maximum comfort, similar to the Secretlab Titan Evo chair. The armrests are magnetic and consist of a PU foam material, making them easy to lean on. The armrest has three buttons, with the one on the outside controlling the height of the armrest. The button located inside the chair near the armrest’s tip allows it to move forward and backward and pivot left to right, while the last button situated beneath the armrest moves it left to right.

I’m particularly fond of the 4D armrests, especially when the chair is reclined backward and tilted forward since I can adjust the armrest to suit my sitting position. Dangling elbows make me anxious, similar to leaving your foot hanging off the bed at night. You’re always worried about something grabbing it!

Moreover, the magnetic neck pillow is another standout feature that will transform your gaming experience. I’m in awe of this magnetic neck pillow because it’s such a game-changer. You don’t have to worry about straps or struggling to clip it through the backrest. You can slap it on the chair like you’re in a Flex Tape commercial, and it stays put. The neck pillow is incredibly adjustable and is helpful for those shorter than the recommended 5’11” for this chair since it can be easily positioned up or down on the chair.

Furthermore, the magnetic feature doesn’t affect the neck pillow’s comfort in any way. It’s made with memory foam material and has cooling technology that ensures optimal comfort.

Did you notice anything missing? That’s right, there is no lumbar support pillow, but the good news is that it’s built into the chair, and two knobs control it, placed on the left and right sides of the chair. Unfortunately, the knob on the left controls the lumbar support, moving upwards, and… [Error]: Proportional statement incomplete. Please re-open a new chat and use the plugin again if you think this is a mistake.

Key Features to Look for in a Gaming Chair

When looking for the best gaming chair, there are several key features you should consider. These will not only ensure that you’re comfortable while gaming but can also help you improve your performance and reduce the risk of injuries. Here are the most important features to look for:

Ergonomic Design

Ergonomic design refers to a chair that is specifically designed to support your body’s natural posture and movements. This means that the chair should have adjustable components such as armrests, seat height, and backrest angle, to allow you to sit comfortably for long periods.

Lumbar Support

Lumbar support is crucial for reducing strain on your lower back, which is one of the most common areas of discomfort for gamers. Look for a chair that has adjustable lumbar support, such as a pillow or a built-in mechanism, to provide support exactly where you need it.

Comfortable Padding

Padding is important for providing cushioning and reducing pressure points. Look for a chair with high-density foam padding, memory foam, or gel-infused foam for maximum comfort.

Breathable Fabric

Gaming can be an intense and sweaty activity, so it’s important to choose a chair with breathable fabric to prevent discomfort and irritation. Mesh or perforated leather are good options that allow air to flow through and keep you cool.

Frequently Ask Questions (FAQ)

What gaming chairs do pro use?

There is no one “pro” gaming chair that all professional gamers use. Many pro gamers use a variety of chairs based on their personal preferences and needs.

However, there are several popular gaming chair brands that are commonly used by pro gamers. These include:

  1. Secretlab: Secretlab is a popular gaming chair brand that offers a range of chairs designed for gamers. They are known for their high-quality materials and customizable features.
  2. DXRacer: DXRacer is another well-known gaming chair brand that is popular among pro gamers. Their chairs are designed to provide ergonomic support for long gaming sessions.
  3. Herman Miller: While not exclusively a gaming chair brand, Herman Miller chairs, such as the Aeron and Embody, are popular among pro gamers for their high-quality materials and ergonomic design.
  4. Maxnomic: Maxnomic chairs are designed specifically for gamers and feature customizable options such as adjustable armrests and lumbar support.

Ultimately, the best gaming chair for a pro gamer depends on their individual needs and preferences. It’s important to choose a chair that provides adequate support and comfort for extended gaming sessions.

Are gaming chairs actually bad?

PC Gamer has recently published articles concerning the negative impacts of prolonged sitting on the body and their exploration with standing desks. Some might infer that PC Gamer is falling out of admiration with the chair, but that is not the case. As individuals who spend a noteworthy proportion of their day seated in front of screens as both gamers and office workers, it makes sense to invest in a high-quality chair for comfort, support, and value. To discover such chairs, PC Gamer consulted with Melissa Afterman, a Senior Principal Ergonomist at VSI Risk Management & Ergonomics, Inc., who specializes in workstation setups.

Melissa Afterman attested that chairs are still appropriate for extended sitting, despite the knowledge that prolonged sitting is detrimental to health. However, standing for an extended period can also be harmful, therefore, the solution is movement. It is essential to take breaks, stand up and move at least every hour, or alternate between sitting and standing every hour to avoid excessive standing as well. In terms of ergonomics, an upright chair with good support is preferable for typing and working at the computer to maintain a neutral spine posture. On the other hand, a slightly inclined chair is preferable when switching to gaming mode to relax the lower back while maintaining adequate support. Therefore, a locking backrest and tension control are critical features to look for in a gaming chair.

One feature that can be found on more costly models is a seat pan slider, which allows you to adjust the position of your buttocks in relation to the backrest.

Are gaming chairs really worth it?

The paramount gaming chairs will consummate your PC setup, not solely from an esthetic perspective, but more crucially, because you will likely be spending countless hours perched in front of your machine, they will equip you with the crucial support needed to keep your spinal column robust and healthy.

Are gaming chairs healthy?

Gaming chairs can provide a comfortable and ergonomic seating option for extended periods of gaming, but whether they are healthy depends on several factors.

First, it’s important to note that sitting for long periods in any chair can be detrimental to your health, as it can lead to poor posture, increased risk of obesity, and other health issues. Therefore, it’s essential to take frequent breaks and engage in physical activity to counteract the negative effects of prolonged sitting.

Gaming chairs can help support proper posture and reduce the risk of back and neck pain. They often feature adjustable lumbar and neck support, as well as armrests that can be adjusted to different heights and angles. This adjustability can help ensure that the chair fits the user’s body properly, reducing the risk of discomfort and strain.

However, not all gaming chairs are created equal, and some may be more beneficial than others. It’s important to choose a chair that is made from high-quality materials, provides adequate support, and is adjustable to your body’s needs. Additionally, it’s important to avoid sitting in a chair for too long without taking breaks to stand, stretch, and move around.

Is a gaming chair better than an office chair?

It’s not always clear-cut whether an office chair or a gaming chair is better for your needs. There are examples of both that are either great or not so great. However, there are chairs like the Herman Miller Embody that blur the line between office and gaming chairs and can work well for either purpose.

Ultimately, the most important factor is finding a chair that suits your individual preferences and needs. While gaming chairs are often chosen for their stylish appearance, it’s essential to prioritize comfort and ergonomics overlooks.

If you’re looking to save money, a budget-friendly office chair can be a viable option that still provides comfort and support.

Are gaming chairs good for your posture?

The top gaming chairs prioritize your back health and provide adequate support. Lumbar support is a crucial aspect of chair design, so when searching for a new gaming chair, ensure it has built-in support to promote good posture. Some chairs even have lumbar support pillows that can assist to some degree. Additionally, multi-adjustable armrests, upholstery, and overall style are also significant factors but keep in mind that these features can come at a high cost.

It’s important to note that a gaming chair cannot do everything for you. While the best gaming chairs promote good posture, it’s up to you to maintain it.

Does every gaming chair fit every body type?

Different models of chairs are tailored to different body types based on varying heights and weights. Therefore, it is important to ensure the appropriateness of one’s fit. Additionally, the width and depth of the seat should also be considered. While some chairs may recommend sitting with legs crossed, it is essential to account for individual dimensions and limb length.
